YOUTUBE
YouTube is a very common, widely used social networking medium. Its video- sharing nature makes it a great educational strategy for providing how-to demonstrations and practical applications (Boswell, 2016). After watching uploaded videos learners can give feedback and ask questions. Using YouTube also opens up the learning environment to other resources and individuals outside of the classroom. As a future educator, I would incorporate YouTube to demonstrate tasks and to explain course material then ask learners to offer their views. I would ask learners to create and/or locate similar productions that illustrate information or provide alternate perspectives. YouTube could be used to study different countries and cultures as well. This would help to expand interests and knowledge beyond what is familiar to the learners. The URL belows contains further information on usage and functions of YouTube.

TWITTER
"Twitter and 'tweeting' is about broadcasting daily short burst messages to the world, with the hope that your messages are useful and interesting to someone (Gil, 2017, para. 1). Twitter is also a useful medium for learning as it provides access to a pool of information and individuals with various backgrounds. George Siemens suggested learning is the act of connecting to other people (Laureate Education, 2009). Information can be shared and received without having to make friend requests. Furthermore, vast amounts of input can be covered without using lengthy time spans due to the limitation of characters per tweet. As a future educator, I would implement Twitter as an investigative tool for learning. I would ask learners to promote communication that could solicit ideas about learning and that could produce feedback regarding the uses and effectiveness of social networking. A lot can be discovered about society as people share their viewpoints and feelings about social networking. Does it reflect true characters or desired personas? Understanding people provides useful insight into the needs of various societies and environments. The URL below provides more information on uses and functions of Twitter.

Vankita, social networking has changed the world as we know it, today we use social media for entertainment, work, and school. Social media has many tools that have advanced and taken over education by storm. This week you focused on YouTube, YouTube is an efficient tool that can be utilized in the classroom. YouTube has instructional videos on history, music, and educational content. The next social network is Twitter. Twitter is used to connect individuals of the same interest. When sending tweets, a hashtag is added to help people see your post adding to that particular conversation. Although I do not have a Twitter page, I can see the educational qualities it may bring to the classroom. You had two great social networking tools this week, good job (Richardson, 2010).

Hi, Vankita.
ReplyDeleteYouTube is such a powerful technology. I chose to discuss Google forms as one of my technologies. Google Forms allows you to add video content, but it cannot be directly uploaded onto a Google Form. It must first be uploaded on Youtube and then linked to the Google Form. I suppose that makes sense because Google now owns YouTube, but I have found that lots of other technologies rely on YouTube to house their video content by embedding the YouTube code into the third-party technology. Thank you for your post. I enjoyed reading your insight.
Hello Ms. Thompson, like others have commented YouTube is a very resourceful source. It allows you to see and review tutorial on different subject matter. YouTube also allows one to upload and download information. Great post.
ReplyDeleteVankita,
ReplyDeleteI have not given YouTube much thought as a social networking site, as compared to Facebook for example. I must admit that I generally only view the videos and ignore the comments. However, as you mention, using YouTube as a social networking platform for adult learners has great potential. I have taken courses that relied heavily on YouTube content. I like your idea of posting course content and requiring student feedback and interaction. I would add that it may be a good idea to make the posts a closed group so that outside users do not interfere or distract the learning environment.
Respectfully,
George
